K. Woodman-Maynard studied animation at Harvard and worked as an animator in San Francisco before moving into comics and design.

Her debut, The Great Gatsby: A Graphic Novel Adaptation (Candlewick Press) was called, “hugely rewarding” by The Wall Street Journal. It was a finalist for the 2021 Foreword Indies Book of the Year Awards.

K. Woodman-Maynard lives with her spouse and pets in Minneapolis where she loves the challenges of running, cross-country skiing, and keeping her dog from eating paint brushes.

K. Woodman-Maynard is a graphic novelist and freelance graphic designer based in Minneapolis, MN. She’s versatile in diverse range of mediums and styles. Her graphic novel debut, The Great Gatsby (Candlewick Press) was featured in The New York Times and The Guardian, and called, “hugely rewarding” by The Wall Street Journal.

The book is rendered in luxe colors of rose, gold, amethyst and aquamarine, making us feel as though we’re watching the events of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel through gems held up to the light.”

K. Woodman-Maynard both adapted and illustrated F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic story of the mysterious Jay Gatsby and his desire to be reunited with his love, Daisy Buchanan. Learning watercolor painting for the graphic novel, Woodman-Maynard depicts the beauty of the jazz age in lush and vivid watercolor. It was a finalist for 2021 Foreword Indies Book of the Year Awards. Learn more about the book here.

She is co-creator of TKAMI: Talk to Kids About Mental Illness, a free resource for helping adults talk to kids about mental illness through comics. During her career as a designer and animator, K. Woodman-Maynard has done work for a diverse set of clients such as Capital One, Nickelodeon, TOMS shoes, and UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law. She has also worked with many innovative startups including Laughable, Angel Invest Boston, and Laguna Beach Textile Company.

She lived for five years in San Francisco where she was co-creator of an animated web-series and comic which gained over 300,000 views on YouTube and appeared in film festivals internationally. She also worked as a designer for Oakland-based Monsoon Company (now Capital One). Woodman-Maynard has a line of folk art inspired letterpress cards with Saturn Press which are sold in hundreds of stores internationally, including at Paper Source and the Metropolitan Museum of Art store. She has also done custom illustration for Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater Museum Store. She sells a selection of her art on Zazzle.

K. Woodman-Maynard attended Harvard University where she studied animation and received the Albert Alcalay award for her studio art work. She graduated magna cum laude with highest honors, and was co-captain of the lightweight varsity crew team. She is a native of Minnesota and loves to hit the trails either on foot or on nordic skis. Katharine goes by “K.” professionally because her full name is so long.
